The Times is biggest year-on-year faller

News International's The Times has reported a double-digit year-on-year fall in sales for February, as most national daily newspapers suffered circulation declines of between 5% and 10%. The Times recorded an 11.7% year-on-year fall in circulation to 445,962, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures published on Friday. The Times was closely followed by Richard Desmond's Daily Star, which saw circulation fall 10.62% year on year to 718,478. Alexander Lebedev's 20p i, which reported its first officially audited figures last month , had easily the best month among the dailies, increasing its circulation by 31.6% over January to 175,714. About 8,000 copies are supplied for free to British Airways and BMI. i had been supported by a successful advertising campaign, featuring Jemima Khan and Dom Joly, although that has recently ended. Sales are estimated to have eased by about 10,000 a day since. Its Lebedev-owned stablemate the Independent managed to limit its year-on-year sales fall to just 0.56% to hit 182,513, although its figures are heavily supported by bulks – UK and Ireland paid-for circulation is just 85,244. With bulks and foreign sales stripped out, the Independent fell 12.9%. The Daily Mail also performed relatively resiliently, with sales falling just 1.92% year on year to 2,070,625. The Guardian reported a year-on-year fall in circulation of 7.7% to reach 262,612. The UK & Ireland paid-for circulation of the Guardian is 245,664.
