Department for Education cuts spending with top supplier Capita by 19%
Capita remained the Department for Education's (DfE's) top supplier in 2010-11, despite a 19% reduction its receipts. It was paid £96.7m in 2010-11, down from £119.1m in 2009-10, according to figures released by the DfE in response to a freedom of information request from GGC. Most of the money in the past year came from the renewal in Frebruary of the £80m contract with the firmto run the teachers' pension scheme . Second place Capgemini also suffered a decrease in the amount of money it received, getting £21m, 38% less than the £33.9m of the previous financial year. Serco's business with the DfE took a 14% hit over 2010-11, down to £13.8m, placing it third in the list. RM came ninth after receiving £4.9m during the same period, 29% less than it received the year before. Eduserv, the not for profit technology developer for the education sector, fared better than its rivals with a 67% increase in the sum it was paid, up to £4.5m in 2010-11 from £2.7m in 2009-10. ICT vendors outside of the top 10 included the Listening Company (£4m), Logica (£3m), BT (£2.8m) and Procserve and Mouchel (both received £2.4m). Spending on items named as software for data analysis (£1.5m) and digital public (£1.4m) also appear on the list, as well as Dell (£1.1m), Trustmarque Solutions (£1m), Cable & Wireless (£787,000), Atos (£315,000), Iron Mountain (£258,000) and Microsoft (£256,000).
