Home Office increases spending with top supplier Fujitsu by 15%

Fujitsu remained the Home Office's top supplier in 2010-11, with a 15% increase in the amount it received to £157m, according to figures released by the department in response to a freedom of information request from GGC. It paid the company's Alcedo subsidiary £133m during the year, while a further £24m went to Fujitsu Services itself. The company has the Sirius contract with the Home Office for a range of services including desktop computers, applications housing, networks and supporting infrastructure and services. The deal was extended in October 2009 and will run until 2017 under the department's 'Extend and Blend' project. IBM came second in the Home Office's list of its top 100 suppliers, with £127m in 2010-11, compared to £31m in the previous year - a 308% increase. CSC, which came third, also fared well with £110m, up from £73m. Security G4S came fourth with £102m, but another company providing IT services, Serco, came fifth with £92m, up from £91m. The Home Office cut its spending with IT suppliers such as Capita (£56m) by 7% and Interserve (£57m) by 2% and Atos Origin (£47m) by 43% in 2010-11. Science technology company 3M also saw the money it received from the department decrease by 11%. It received £59m from the Home Office during 2010-11. Raytheon Systems (14th, £41m), whose e-Borders contract has been cancelled, saw a 3% dip in the money it received in 2010-11. It was paid £42.9m in 2009-10. Other technology suppliers in the list include De La Rue (16th, £30m); Thales (22nd, £20m); Logica (24th, 20m); HP (46th, £7m); Siemens (48th, £7m); Savvis (50th, £6m); Cable & Wireless (57th, £6m) Vodafone (59th, £5m); Steria (69th, £4m) and Airwave (73rd, £4m). O2 (76th, £3m) and Dell (96th, £2m) also appear in the top 100. This article is published by Guardian Professional.
