Wales to receive £10m to extend broadband
The funding will help facilitate the roll out of next generation broadband in Pwllheli and nearby areas of north Wales, said the department. The investment is part of the Welsh assembly government's national delivery plan for the whole of the country. Speaking about the investment, George Osborne, the chancellor of the exchequer, said: "This funding will support the Welsh economy and help drive the private sector-led recovery by driving innovation and commercial opportunities in communities across Wales. "This is just the first wave of funding for Wales from the over half a billion pounds we have already set aside to extend super fast broadband across the UK." Wales secretary, Cheryl Gillan, said the announcement shows the government's commitment to include Wales in its plans to ensure that the UK has the best super fast network in Europe by 2015. "For this to work we need to test innovative approaches that bring broadband to hard to reach areas and today's announcement will do just that." This article is published by Guardian Professional
